DraftWise Announces Commercial Agreement with Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP

Orrick has signed a multi-year commercial agreement with DraftWise, Inc. for their knowledge management and negotiation platform following a successful pilot with the firm’s attorneys.

DraftWise helps attorneys draft and review contracts faster through access to their firm’s precedent and previous contracts. It combines drafting, search, discovery, and redlining tools in a single easy-to-access platform within Microsoft Word. The software automatically integrates with DMS and knowledge resources to help firms like Orrick better understand trends in legal terms, respond to client preferences and collaborate around the firm’s own high-quality precedent contracts. The company deploys advanced AI models to understand content within each contract and make that easily available for an attorney’s use when drafting and negotiating on their client’s behalf.

“DraftWise will save our attorneys and the entire deal team hundreds of hours by enabling them to tap data and spot trends with incredible speed and accuracy. That adds up to more efficient client service and it also makes work better by enabling our team to focus on areas where they can add strategic value. We also see use cases for DraftWise precedent features beyond contracting,” shared Wendy Curtis, Orrick’s Chief Innovation Officer.

“Our focus is on bringing Tech and Energy sector-focused insights to our clients in a fundamentally better way. That’s measured by both efficiency and quality and DraftWise will be a key tool in our toolkit,” added Matthew Gemello, Partner and Business Unit Leader for Orrick’s Corporate group.

DraftWise was founded by Palantir and Google engineers James Ding and Emre Ozen, and Clifford Chance lawyer Ozan Yalti. The team intends to bring advanced analytics and data management to the legal space, to enable lawyers to spend more time on the important, hard work of representing their clients. DraftWise has participated in Y Combinator, MDR LAB’s Improve program and Allen & Overy’s Fuse innovation hub. Today, the company works with AmLaw100, Vault 10 and other leading firms across US, Europe, and Latin America.

“Orrick is known in the legal industry for their technical innovation and their focus on the attorney experience. We found ourselves in great company working with them to advance their vision of knowledge management and bringing data-oriented solutions to their practice groups. We are grateful for the opportunity to continue delivering great technology to Orrick’s attorneys and working together in the years to come,” said James Ding, Co-Founder and CEO of DraftWise.

Orrick will be rolling out DraftWise in the coming months and continuing to invest in its innovative tech programs, giving the firm’s attorneys the tools they need to exceed expectations for their clients.
